Most exercise instructors spend a good bit of time during class cuing proper body alignment. It is an important aspect for safety, helping to prevent immediate or future injuries. Some of the cues are based on the most common misalignments, while others are addressed as they are seen in the class.
Improper form is common, especially with beginners. One big reason is just lack of knowledge. If you have limited understanding and experience in the movement, guidance is important for a safe expression of the posture. Another reason is that a student has formed an idea of what the position “should” look like based upon what they have seen in others and pushes their body deeper than it is able to go at the moment due to these unwise comparisons. A third trigger for misalignment is caused by drastic changes to normal function of muscles and joints due to chronic stress or your bodies keen ability to cheat to make things easier. A great example of this is slouching, instead of sitting up straight. This habit causes the chest muscles to tighten, the upper back muscles to round, and the shoulders to roll forward. These new “normals” thenintegrate into all movement and throw your body even more out of alignment, producing things like pain and fatigue. Incidentally, improved posture is one of the first noticeable physical benefits of Keola® participation.
As mentioned above, it is important to correct form to keep the student on a safe path that brings health, instead of harm. Sound leading in a class will help train the student to restore accurate normal and learn how to safely move in agreement with how they were created, naturally.
Keola® addresses these physical issues, but also recognizes and addresses the greater spiritual truth. You are not just a physical body. You are spirit (eternal), soul (mind, emotions, will), and body(1Thes 5:23) and it is even more critical to bring those 3 into proper alignment for health and wellness.
Authentic health begins in the spirit. That eternal part of us needs to be reconciled to Our Creator to be healed. The price for that reconciliation was paid for by Jesus Christ. All your healing was given freely through Jesus, “by whose stripes you were healed” (1Peter 2:24). So for those of you who are believers, if you “were” healed you might be asking why aren’t I?
When you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, your spirit is perfect, unblemished, and healed. The Holy Spirit is always working to position you to receive what has taken placein your spirit into the more tangible parts of your being, your soul and body. How does He do this? By aligning you to Truth.
“Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.” (2 Tim 3:16 MSG)
He is the Instructor and has provided everything you need to live a holy, content, whole life, and be healed in spirit, emotions, mind, and body. Regardless of what caused the problem, Jesus is the answer. As you meditate on Truth, His Holy Spirit causes it to bleed into the fiber of your being so you walk as the new creation that you are. You have been delivered from the old habits that used to cause misalignment, so “put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator” (Col 3:10 NIV).
Line up with the Word by His Spirit and you will shine! Hold fast to God and His promises through any trials or attempts of the enemy to steal the truth (Matthew 13). Your body and soul will move into agreement. He is faithful and He will do it!
“May the God of peace himself make you entirely pure and devoted to God; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept strong and blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes back again. God, who called you to become his child, will do all this for you, just as he promised.” (1Thessalonians 5:23-24 TLB)
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:3 NLT)
“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord–who is the Spirit–makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” (2 Cor 3:18 NLT)
“that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.” (Phil 2:15-16 ESV)
“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, ‘If you continue in My word, thenyou are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.’ ” (John 8:31-32 NASB)
