I was praying with a friend the other day. Her heart was aching about what is going on in the world; bombings, murderous persecution of Christians, sickness… She was weary.

I’ve known those moments of weariness and heartache. I am so grateful that God offers freedom from them. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into the fire and we will be too. That doesn’t mean we have to be full of defeat, hanging on by a thread, until Jesus comes back or we breathe our last and go to Him. No, these men were unbound in the middle of the fire.

This last year had a lot of tears for our family, but it also had more unity, laughter, and treasured moments than many other years. The fire is not meant to destroy us. It is meant to refine us. With Jesus and each other, we can stand free even in the midst of the flames.
