Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

(Daniel 6:23 ESV)

STEPPING INTO A GREAT HARVEST

I sit here writing this on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016 at 8:45am EST, specifically while votes are still being cast and I don’t know who is going to be “king”, or “queen”, of this beautiful country. I sit here in a place of total rest, because I know who is King of the world.

Daniel is one of my favorite men of God. He is such an inspiration. He lived and even prospered through the reigns of several pagan kings in a country that didn’t worship the God. His life and purity of devotion to Yahweh rocked every one of those kings in a different way. You see, Daniel wasn’t limited by who was in power on an earthly throne. He knew who was on the Throne of thrones and had complete control over who sat in that physical position here on earth (Daniel 2:21).

Here Daniel is put in a lion’s den to die all because of a poor government system that had been manipulated for the direct purpose of destroying Daniel… but God!

Beloved, I feel like every election I have had the privilege of taking part in by my vote has carried with it this intense split. Half the country was going to be disappointed, complain, or spend their time analyzing with scrutiny every move of our – let’s be real and empathetic – not fearless leader. The other half would be screaming how grateful they were and how awful things would be otherwise. This last year and a half has already had this sense of an unreal dream that I am just waiting to wake up from, so I haven’t even been able to dig in and study each candidate, but I have been able to pray. From the buzz that I have heard, many don’t even know how to react no matter what the results tomorrow… today, actually, as you read this. They’ve been pretty dumbfounded by the choices and I’m not going to lie that when I heard in the midst of chemotherapy in Nashville last year, it just seemed to add to the surreal tragic comedy that we were/are in the middle of… but God!

Just prior to this verse for meditation, Daniel says that God saved him because he was found innocent before Him, which (if you are in Christ) you are, too. Daniel also says that he didn’t wrong the king (verse 6:22). Daniel’s position with God kept his actions pure. In both trouble and prosperity, he spoke to God and, in turn, God spoke to everyone.

Whether you wake up today feeling grateful, overwhelmed, or paralyzed in confusion,

choose the way of Daniel and cling to, trust in, and rely on King Jesus. Follow the heart and ways of God by honoring government officials (1 Peter 2:17). Pray for those in power with thanksgiving for them, so you can live like Daniel; peacefully, dignified, and (Lord willing) be used mightily for the Harvest (1 Timothy 2:1-4). God is good. Trust Him, Child of God. He knows exactly what He’s doing. You cannot be destroyed by whatever laws or systems are put into place here on earth no matter what power is behind it, but He can be glorified through you. So who won? You did. Praise the name of Jesus!

*NOTE: The meaning of the name Daniel is “God my Judge” or “judgment of God”. God has judged you innocent in Christ. Your choices of integrity, love, and purity of life in Christ are some of the most convicting and powerful judgments God can bring on a wayward world. Be encouraged to live godly today, not for your salvation, but for theirs. Love you!
