Challenging Faith

Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” (Mark 5:36 NIV)

I am convinced that God is asking us for only one thing: a heart that fully believes. Through triumph or tragedy He is saying, “Will you only trust Me?”

That kind of faith is scary. The natural tendency is to put a barricade around our hearts protecting us from potential disappointments, but in that place of shelter everything is a potential enemy, including God. It is only in giving our hearts fully to this God of love, justice, and truth that we can experience true life.

He is not the author of your problems, but He is the solution. Don’t be afraid to believe! Allow yourself to trust Him completely with all that you have and all that you are. Open yourself to believe His promises wholeheartedly no matter what. Allow Him to take the pieces of what has been broken in the past and make them strong and new. Allow His Word and Spirit to teach you what is true and help you to faithfully and patiently walk into it.

Don’t give up on Him, Dear One. He hasn’t given up on you.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5 AKJV)

Trust in him at all times; you people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Psalm 62:8 AKJV)

Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” (John 6:29 NASB)

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. (Hebrews 3:12 ESV)

Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. (Mark 16:14 ESV)
