Jesus answered and said to them, You do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. (Matthew 22:29 AKJV)
TRUTH AND LOVE
I’ve had the privilege of going to many different styles and denominations of churches over the last 20 years. There is such beauty and authenticity in each. Jesus prayer in Gethsemane was for unity among believers (John 17:21,23). This unity would minister the truth of Jesus to the world.
It is no surprise then, that unity and love among the whole Bride of Christ would be attacked by the enemy. This verse spoken in rebuke to the debate between the Sadducees and Pharisees applies to our churches today.
There are some Christian groups that love the Word of God, but are hesitant to accept much of the power of the Holy Spirit. Alternatively, I’ve been in other places that flow in the power of God given freely through acceptance of the Gospel of grace that don’t know the Scriptures (Revelation 2: Pergamum Church).
The temptation can be to reject one or the other, because both have been grossly misrepresented by some people. The truth is that we don’t need to fear either one. The Word is Jesus and the Spirit is Jesus. They are One and will only compliment and affirm each other. We can and should freely embrace and love both.
My prayer for you this week is that you are willing to accept all of Jesus. If you believe you have seen abuse through people claiming to preach the Word or move in the Spirit, I pray that you will be released from any fear that you will fall into error by accepting either one and that you will walk in mercy toward those individuals.
That fear is actually working to move you to error by rejecting the Scriptures or the Spirit, as seen in this verse. Choose Jesus completely and trust Him to keep you in what is true by both His Word and His Spirit. Pray for those people who you believe to be in error or out of order. We all need each others prayers! Now dive into all of Jesus together and be blessed.
How much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
(Luke 11:13 AKJV)
Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
(Psalm 119:11 NASB)
He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit said to the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna… (Revelation 2:17 AKJV)
