Meditate and Digest: Can’t Buy Me Love

But Peter said to him, Your money perish with you, because you have thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. (Acts 8:20 AKJV)

The beauty of the Gospel is that it is offered to us freely. It is impossible for our human minds to grasp such a thing. That, compounded with any greed for power or stuff (which is idolatry), can lead many astray.

In this passage, we are told that Simon believed and was baptized. When he saw the power of the Gospel, what was really in his heart came out like a rushing flood. Peter says, “Repent of your wickedness!“ Even believers can get their priorities messed up and forget the gift of the Good News.

The Word says to guard your heart, cling to Jesus and faith in the Gospel. Seek to glorify Him, not yourself, in all things. This is not a contest. It’s a race and all who make it to the finish line win.

There is much that will try to pull you away, Dear One. Resist with everything you’ve got and let God mightily and freely work out His salvation in and through you.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

1 Corinthians 2:12 AKJV

Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”

Luke 12:15 NASB

Repent of your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts, for I can see that you are full of bitter jealousy and are held captive by sin.”

Acts 8:22-23 NLT
