A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS
So, I am just an everyday gal. You can take or leave my opinion and there are a million more to choose from, but I was thinking about some of my favorite things from my experiences in eating gluten free, vegan, clean, and any other label you want to give “healthier”. Those are some of the toughest categories to relate to if you’ve never done it, so I’m hoping to take some guesswork out of your shopping day for those of you who have a friend who eats well or is seriously starting to.
A GREAT VEGAN COOKBOOK (EVEN FOR THE MEAT EATER)
We were only vegan for a short time as a treatment option for my son and there was a lot that we didn’t enjoy. This cookbook is absolutely excellent and I still make many things from it. It is a great way to add more whole grains and veggies into your diet. It is also more manageable time-wise than some vegan cooking.
A wonderful gift for anyone looking to get healthier, as she gives the low down on natural sweeteners, different flours, nut choices, and more, empowering you to learn how to make your own substitutions in everyday cooking.

FOR THE LATTE LOVER
Find it on Amazon: $6.49
I use it for tea and coffee lattes. Package it with a nice mug and some tea or coffee bags for a great gift.
Easy Rooibos Chai Soy Latte
1 cup vanilla soy milk
2 Numi Rooibos Chai tea bags
- Steep the tea bags in water.
- Warm the soy milk on the stove in a small saucepan using medium heat. Do not boil.
- Remove milk from heat and froth using the milk frother.
- Remove tea bags and add soy milk to the tea, stirring to combine and topping with froth.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon, if desired. Enjoy!
Rooibos is a caffeine-free red tea from South Africa. It is full of antioxidants and has many health benefits, including anti-inflammatory and heart boosting.
FOR THE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY COOKER
I have searched for good Teflon-alternative frying pans for years. I have used non-coated stainless steel and ceramic. Everything inevitably wound up getting marked with brown oil and food residue and my dish would consistently stick. I found these Ecolution pans and they are a dream. They have a PFOA-free water-based Hydrolon non-stick coating that is a friend to small animals, birds, and food. Ha! I can’t tell you how happy I was to find them. I got mine at Publix and TJ Maxx, but you can find them at Target.com, Walmart, and Amazon. $20+
(Please note that they can scratch easily. I keep felt dividers between them, use only silicone based or non-scratching utensils, and hand wash them. They are performing great under this care.)
WHEN MONEY IS NO OBJECT
Go for my favorite kitchen gadget, the Vitamix. It makes cooking healthy so easy. You can make your own vegan “ice cream”, nut flours, nut milks, delicious smoothies, and so much more. I like to use it for sneaking good things into my dishes, so my family doesn’t know… Good Choice Chocolate Chip Cookies (with protein and nutrition packed chickpeas), anyone?
Happy Thanksgiving and happy shopping!
