I woke up this morning with two beautiful Scriptures ringing in my heart. I’m going to share one and where the Father took me with it that blessed me today.
Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead… (Hebrews 11:19 BSB)
The word that really stood out to me was “reasoned”. What makes one person so firmly believe that God can do anything, yet another buckle at the slightest bit of pressure? I looked up the original Greek for reasoned. The exact translation is logisamenos, a form of the Greek word logizomai which means, among other things, to reckon, reason, decide, conclude, suppose. Does the word look familiar? It’s where we get our English word logic.
I find it interesting that Abraham’s reasoning is so different than many of ours, yet he and the people of faith in the Word are our example. This is supported by the root word of the word logizomai, which is logos.
In the beginning was the Word (logos), and the Word (logos) was with God, and the Word (logos) was God. (John 1:1 ESV, parenthesis original Greek)
The word logos is word and the Word is Jesus. Instead of allowing worldly logic to dominate our thought patterns and direct our lives, we were designed to receive and walk out reasoning through the direction of Jesus, our relationship with Him and His Word.
I’m writing to encourage you today in the same way the Lord encouraged me this morning. It doesn’t matter what you are going through. You may think it’s nothing compared to what my family is facing, but if it worries your heart then God cares about it. He cares about you. Cast your cares on Him and be willing to believe Him for what you see Him doing for and through His covenant people in the Word. Allow Him to shape your reasoning by His Word and Spirit. The world will think you are crazy, but resist the temptation to be swayed by others opinions. What God says matters and He is pleased with faith. You won’t walk perfectly but you are standing on Jesus, not yourself, so it is okay. Through Christ you are Abraham’s descendant and an heir to his promises. His reasoning is a blessing for you. Set your heart in the direction of Truth and trust the Lord to do the rest.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
(Romans 10:17 ESV)
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
(Colossians 3:16 NASB)
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
(John 15:7 ESV)
